Ten reasons why India lost to West Indies

June 13, 2009 · 11 Comments

  • MS Dhoni made 11 of 23 balls.
  • Gambhir played a brainfade hook shot which he never plays well. This time, he played it when India already were two down with not many runs on the board and got out.
  • MS Dhoni made 11 of 23 balls.
  • Yuvraj Singh got out at a crucial time. He could have made a difference of 20 runs in the end.
  • MS Dhoni made 11 of 23 balls.
  • India’s fielding was atrocious. Harbhajan and Yusuf conceded two boundaries through their legs.
  • MS Dhoni made 11 of 23 balls.
  • Ishant Sharma shouldn’t have bowled the 17th over. Irfan Pathan, who had a good day with the ball, should have been given that over.
  • MS Dhoni made 11 of 23 balls.
  • India never bowled to pick up wickets. You can never win a T20 match by restricting the opposition when you have just made 152 on a batting track. Wickets are the key.

I think Dhoni 11 of 23 balls depressed yuvraj also. and that is why india were 58 only 11 overs

    I think you’ve made a mistake on bullets 2, 4, 6 and 8, they should read:
“MS Dhoni made 11 of 23 balls.”
Bullet 10 should read: “We should stop elevating Ishant Sharma to GOD status as a bowler and realize that while talent is there, the overhype is getting to his head. He bowled like a moron which is how he usually bowls nowadays and anyways he has only 1 5 wkt hall in his test career – he is mediocre at best with talent – he should work towards realizing his talent before bowling death overs”

Bullet 11 should be created reading:
“Dhoni should make up his mind whether he wants to stay in cricket or dedicate a full 100% of his time to Bollywood and acting b/c the current 15% of time he devotes to cricket is costing India in Twenty20s at least as he has forgotten how to slog and does not have the classical technique to score fast by finding gaps”

    Bullet 12 should read:
“Someone should slap Ojha for ever even beginning to THINK that he is more than a C grade bowler”

Dhoni did not even once look INTERESTED in getting the score moving. It wasn’t just an off day – he played with rank disregard for the team, lack of pride, complacency, you name it. That. to me, is more disgraceful than his actual score. In 2007 (after the ODI world cup disaster) he started working on becoming a better batsmen and more reliable one. It has worked in Test and ODI cricket – he is consistent and reliable. But the downside is that he’s lost his slog ability and that is poison for his Twenty20 game. He is not a Twenty20 player anymore – shocking as it may sound.

    Mr. Highyengar! :-)
    HILARIOUS!! good stuff!

Agree with Q- bravo, Simmons, Edwards, had great games.

Q, I was impressed with Lendl Simmons’ all round performance and Bravo’s knock. But this blog post was written more to bash India for their disappointing loss than being one serving as an appreciation for good cricket by Windies. This is the first India match in this series i got to see in full and I was terribly disappointed. As much as I can tolerate India losing, there are some things about this loss i cannot digest.

Nishant, you are right. When 150 proved to be insufficient, Dhoni should have attacked the opposition at that time. Even an 80 all out would have made no difference to the result. In my opinion, there is no point in playing a watchful hand on a batting wicket, that too in T20.

Raj, I share a similar opinion on most of the points made. Ishant Sharma has a lot to prove than what the commentators make of him. Dhoni hasn’t done anything for India or CSK to bat at no:3 in T20 I’s. Though he did not bat at 3 yesterday, he does not deserve a place ahead of Yusuf and Irfan for the way he is playing. Ojha has no greater variety than the flight that he offers to the batsmen. Such a bowler cannot continue picking wickets for long.

    Thanks fark.

    I understand the disappointment 12th Man…

India were completely outplayed though.. it was top stuff by the Windies who keep blowing hot or cold.

Yes, whenever India are due for an upset, the opponent team raise their standards to a surprisingly good level. Bangla did that in 2007 WC and now windies do it with their fielding, something that was never their forte.

Kind Sir,I was hoping I’ll see reasons why India are heading back now! !!

According to me, Dhoni was over confident. West Indies played a smart game. Indian bowling was not impressive.

India’s batting has been completely exposed. Dhoni’s theory of a full youth team has backfired. Its high time master blaster Sachin Tendulkar comes into the T20 team and stabilize the team.
